Dan Doyle Honored as ASHRAE Fellow

G/BA Illinois Chairman, Daniel L. Doyle, P.E., LEED AP O+M, was named a Fellow of ASHRAE at the association’s recent 2020 Winter Conference in Orlando.

The Fellow grade of membership recognizes exceptional contributions in the art of engineering. Dan Doyle has been principal-in-charge for hundreds of analytical and design projects, primarily in the healthcare and laboratory sectors. His relationships with clients such as Advocate Health Care and his many public presentations to healthcare organizations have helped make more efficient central plants, lighting, and exhaust systems a goal for many Midwestern hospitals. He also spearheaded a major annual hospital benchmarking survey, providing free facility data to decisionmakers.

On the laboratory side, his advocacy for greener facilities includes groundbreaking built projects and influential presentations and association roles. He currently serves as CFO of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories.

The quality of Dan’s work has been recognized by more than 20 ASHRAE Illinois, Region VI, and Society awards.

“Dan has always been passionate about engineering and energy conservation, bringing big ideas to clients in energy-intensive industries throughout his career,” says Chad Luning, G/BA Illinois President. “The ASHRAE Fellow award is a well-deserved recognition of the cumulative impact of Dan’s tireless efforts to improve facilities in the sectors of the built environment he has been able to reach. In addition, his affinity for people and his talent for nurturing human capital have played a huge role in G/BA’s culture, growth, and success.”

Dan was nominated for the award by former high school classmate William P. Bahnfleth, PhD., P.E., FASHRAE, who is professor and director of the Indoor Environment Center at The Pennsylvania State University College of Engineering. “Two things set Dan apart as an excellent professional,” he says. “The first is his long history of innovative project work in demanding industry sectors. The second is his long record of impactful leadership.”

The firm congratulates Dan on this impressive achievement, making him one of only about 500 people who have been recognized as Fellows of ASHRAE: a group that currently has some 57,000 members. He is the company’s third ASHRAE Fellow, after founders David L. Grumman, P.E., and Alexander S. Butkus, P.E.
