Renovations to McCulloch Park included reconstruction of an existing basketball court and playground, as well as reconstruction of the park’s lighting system, relocation of all overhead utility lines running through the park to below grade, new site furnishings, fencing, landscaping, and other improvements. Elements celebrating the life of the park’s namesake, suffragette and civic leader Catharine Waugh McColloch, were also included.
A public engagement process informed aspects of the park’s design.
GBA’s scope included lighting design, submittal review, and construction administration, as well as work on the relocation of the utility lines. GBA recommended lighting fixtures; the actual layout of the lighting design was by others. Existing fixtures were removed.
New lighting incorporates LED fixtures and equipment, selected in coordination with the City’s design standards and photometric calculations. GBA assisted with calculations required to demonstrate compliance with applicable energy codes. The selected fixtures, placed on concrete bases, included a die-cast aluminum dome and an LED lighting system comprising a heat sink, lens, LED module, optical system, and driver.
Along with all the other renovated aspects of the park, the new lighting and relocated utility lines increase the accessibility, safety, and usefulness of this popular public amenity.
