A new AHU was set in place in an adjacent mechanical room storage space and made completely operational before the shutdown and demolition of the existing AHU. The return fan was replaced during one night-time shutdown. The new AHU design was carefully planned to allow AHU sections to move through existing corridors and doorways, with subsequent reassembly in the basement mechanical room.
A new multiple supply fan array design provided a small AHU footprint and increased operational reliability. New temperature controls included airflow measuring stations with fan tracking to ensure indoor air quality (minimum outside air intake) and building pressurization capability.
Project work also included upgrades to two AHUs serving the operating suite from 100% outdoor air operation to recirculated air for energy conservation. The safe impact of the conversion to recirculation was analyzed and confirmed.
GBA commissioned both the primary AHU replacement and the operating suite AHU upgrade.
