The Windy City Chapter of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories hosts two thought-provoking events this month, including one that will be held at G/BA’s Evanston offices.
On April 4, “The Future of Lab Sustainability” will be explored at the UIC Student Center West, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Featuring speakers from Gensler and Argonne National Laboratory, the event is geared to students but open to all who have interest in this topic. Gensler will present recent lab design projects that showcase new ideas for usability. Ralph T. Muehleisen, Principal Building Scientist at Argonne, will present design ideas and technologies on the horizon for improving lab sustainability.
On April 17, Allison Paradise from My Green Lab will discuss the ACT Label, the first eco-label for lab products. This informative session, preceded by a happy hour and networking, will be held at the offices of Grumman/Butkus Associates in Evanston, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Allison will explain how the label is intended to provide consistent, comprehensive, and easily understandable information that labs can use to assess — and ultimately reduce — the environmental impact of the products they use.
