Advocate Illinois Masonic Chiller Plant Upgrade Featured in Engineered Systems Magazine

Presentations and Publications

A large-scale chiller plant replacement designed by G/BA for Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center is the cover story in the November 2015 issue of Engineered Systems magazine.

Authored by Advocate Regional Facilities Director Craig McKenzie and G/BA Associate David S. Eldridge, the feature article details the complex purchasing, design, and logistical decisions required for the $4.2 million project. The work improved energy efficiency, provided N+1 redundancy on refrigeration machines, and eliminated ozone-depleting refrigerants from all the facility’s major chillers. The project resulted in an estimated energy savings of more than $100,000 per year, as well as a water savings of more than 300,000 gallons a year related to the condensate recovery system.

Additional leaders on the project included Advocate’s Darryl Dylla (HVAC and Power Plant Manager) and G/BA staff members Dennis LeBlanc (mechanical engineer) and Tim Jendrycki (project manager).
