Description
The Grumman|Butkus Associates (GBA) Internship Program offers engineering students an opportunity for hands-on experience with a wide array of commissioning projects. A mentor is assigned to each intern to provide support and guidance throughout the internship.
Interns will be exposed to the full range of services, career paths, and project types within GBA’s portfolio and sometimes beyond.
This internship will focus on the field of building commissioning, which is the process of verifying and documenting that a facility and all its systems are designed, installed, operated and maintained in compliance with the owner’s requirements and design. The intern will assist in various parts of this process, from the design stage to the final commissioning report. Commissioning projects range from healthcare facilities, academic buildings, museums, and residential high-rises. The position will require approximately 60% office / 40% field work.

Responsibilities
In this role, you will work with and be mentored by experienced engineers. You will be trained to perform and assist with some of the following:
- Aiding in the review and testing of the design, installation, and operation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Performing field survey work and obtaining amp, volt, and power readings; minimum OA measurements; IAQ parameters; control setpoints; and rotational speed of equipment.
- Preparing field observation reports, pre-functional checklists, functional checklists, systems manuals, and other technical reports.
Qualifications
What You Will Need to Succeed
- Enrollment in an undergraduate mechanical or electrical engineering program.
- General knowledge of the following topics: steam systems, pumps, fans, motors, heat exchangers, chillers, boilers, air ventilation systems, and fluid dynamics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD.
- Ability to explain complicated technical situations in easy-to-understand emails, presentations, and in-person.
- Strong desire to learn.
