GBA Announces Four Staff Promotions

Four staff members were promoted to new positions during Grumman/Butkus Associates’ semi-annual meeting in December.

Habib Shams, P.E., LEED AP, was promoted to Associate Vice President. Michael Murphy, P.E., was promoted to Associate. Fiona Martin McCarthy, P.E., QCxP, BEAP, LEED AP O+M, and Tim Shinnick, P.E., LEED AP BD+C, QCxP, CEM, were both promoted to Project Manager.

Habib Shams joined G/BA in 2005. He holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University. He is responsible for overseeing all phases of work in mechanical system design, including technical and quality review of projects. His responsibility includes design of HVAC and medical gas systems for new and existing facilities, heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selection, construction administration services, and commissioning. Habib is a member of ASHRAE.

Michael Murphy joined G/BA in 2000. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University. Mike handles HVAC system design for new and existing facilities, including field inspections of existing conditions, heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selection, and system layout. He is a member of ASHRAE.

Fiona Martin McCarthy joined G/BA in 2010. She holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a Master in Renewable & Clean Energy from the University of Dayton. As a mechanical engineer specializing in energy efficiency and sustainable design, she works on energy and resource benchmarking, energy conservation studies, LEED consulting, energy efficient systems, EPA consulting, commissioning, and retro-commissioning projects. Fiona is a member of ASHRAE and the Chicago Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Tim Shinnick joined G/BA in 2009. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He specializes in retro-commissioning and commissioning work and building analysis, and supports the entire G/BA commissioning team through expertise in the on-line commissioning software platform CxAlloy. Tim is a member of ASHRAE.

G/BA congratulates these team members for their valuable ongoing contributions to the firm, which specializes in energy and resource consulting for large, energy-intensive facilities as well as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing/FP design services, commissioning, retro-commissioning, energy and resource benchmarking, energy conservation studies, MEP infrastructure planning and upgrades, LEED consulting, and computerized building modeling. Founded in 1973 in Evanston, IL, the company also has offices in Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona, and the New York metropolitan area.
