David Cohen, P.E., CCP, DCEP, is among the Building Commissioning Association’s inaugural class of 20 Under 40 Award recipients.
The BCxA created the program “to highlight and honor the next generation of building professionals.” Applicants were evaluated on execution/adherence to the BCxA’s Best Practices; leadership in the building sciences field through volunteerism, advocacy, training, and education; innovation in adapting to new and advanced technologies, processes, and software; and making commissioning “business as usual.”
David, a Project Manager in the G/BA Illinois office’s commissioning group, has taken on many key assignments for the firm and is the lead commissioning engineer for our work with Northwestern University. He also has special expertise in data centers and laboratories, and is one of G/BA’s leaders in fault detection and diagnostics technology for existing building commissioning.
Recent work includes Cx project management of the NU Feinberg School of Medicine’s massive Simpson-Querrey Biomedical Research Center; NU’s highly regarded Ryan Fieldhouse and Walter Athletics Center; multiple projects for ARRIS (now part of CommScope) in Pennsylvania and New York; several critical environment projects for Zebra in New York; and assistance with Cx projects for NY regional client Valley Health System, notably their new replacement hospital in Paramus, NJ.
G/BA Vice President John Villani says of David’s work with NU: “David’s extra effort to train and educate his client for the benefit of the university, not G/BA, was done to help elevate the industry, raise university standards, and improve the quality of projects the university facilities team was delivering.”
Active with the BCxA, ASHRAE, and the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL), David currently serves as the Treasurer of the BCxA’s Central Chapter.
Hearty congratulations to David for this career achievement!
