Alexander S. Butkus, PE, FASHRAE

In 1981, Al Butkus was promoted to Principal of Enercon, Ltd., and the firm became Grumman|Butkus Associates. As a former president of the firm with more than 40 years of experience, he is an invaluable resource for the firm's managers and engineers. Al's specialization and expertise includes management consulting, master planning, analysis of plant operation problems, building commissioning, energy management, and renovation of existing buildings. He has made many presentations on building operations, energy management, and economics. His projects have been awarded several society-level ASHRAE Technology Awards, including assignments at Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort and Casino, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, and Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, as well as many local and regional awards.

In 2019, he was honored with the designation of Fellow of ASHRAE.

Al retired from full-time work as Senior Principal in December 2016; he now serves on the GBA Advisory Board. In addition, he continues his longtime volunteer efforts in support of the Evanston community. He is a board member of Youth & Opportunity United (Y.O.U.); a Building Committee chair and Finance Committee member for the McGaw YMCA; and a chairperson on the Advisory Board of Senior Connections. Al enjoys cycling and spending time at his cabin in Wisconsin.
