Verizon Wireless – Tulsa

Tulsa, OK

Exterior of a low-rise brick communications facility

Overview

GBA provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation design services for a new $21 million, 50,000-square-foot wireless telecommunications switching center.

Mobile Switching Center, Design

The building program included two switch rooms and two DC power plants. A 550-ton chilled water plant supplies chilled water to multiple large modular air handling units around the building.

In addition to providing regular air conditioning of the spaces, some of the AHUs provide conditioned make-up air for smoke purge of various zones, protected by clean agent fire-suppression systems. The building’s air conditioning power system consists of a 4,000-amp, 480-volt electrical service, two 1,500-kW standby generators, and two connection boxes for use with portable standby generators.
