Gunsaulus Hall Fire Sprinkler System

Gunsaulus Hall Fire Sprinkler System - Chicago, IL

Overview

Grumman/Butkus Associates designed a new fire protection sprinkler system and the associated fire alarm upgrades for this existing dormitory: a 10-story, 83,000-square-foot building. The new sprinkler system includes a new fire pump and standpipe equipment as required for a high-rise building.

Features

Plumbing work included new, upsized water service to accommodate the new fire pump and to be reconnected to the existing domestic service. Fire protection scope of work included installing a new wet sprinkler system throughout the entire building. The new system included the installation of a new electric fire pump with associated equipment and controller, and new standpipes.

The project also included the electrical engineering of the alarm components for the new sprinkler system, with connection to the existing code-compliant fire alarm system. New power service had to be provided for the new fire pump equipment.

The new piping required work on ceilings, soffits, and pipe chases, as well as the build out of a new pump room.
