The Howard T. Ricketts Regional Biocontainment Laboratory is one of nine new regional facilities supporting research for the detection, prevention, and elimination of diseases such as anthrax, hemorrhagic fever, influenza, and plague. The building contains BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories, BSL-2 and BSL-3 vivariums, and required support spaces. The University of Chicago received a grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), to construct the building which is located on the campus of the Argonne National Laboratory.
