Carmen Hall Fire Sprinkler System

Carmen Hall Fire Sprinkler System - Chicago, IL

Grumman/Butkus Associates designed a new fire protection sprinkler system and the associated fire alarm upgrades for this existing nine-story, 74,000-square-foot dormitory. The new sprinkler system included a new fire pump and new standpipe equipment as required for existing high-rise buildings.

Plumbing work included new, upsized water service to accommodate the new fire pump and to be reconnected to the existing domestic service. Fire protection scope of work included installing a new wet sprinkler system throughout the entire building. The new system included the installation of a new electric fire pump with associated equipment and controller, and new standpipes.

The project also included the electrical engineering of the alarm components for the new sprinkler system, with connection to the existing code-compliant fire alarm system. New power service had to be provided for the new fire pump equipment.

The new piping required work on ceilings, soffits, and pipe chases, as well as the build out of a new pump room.
