Practice Greenhealth honors G/BA as a Champion for Change

May 31

For the fourth year in a row, Grumman/Butkus Associates has been named a Champion for Change by Practice Greenhealth, a healthcare membership organization.

The group offers environmental solutions for the healthcare sector and promotes best practices by hospitals, related facilities, and their suppliers and service providers. The Champion for Change award recognizes businesses, group purchasing organizations, and strategic associate members that demonstrate successful accomplishments in "greening" their own organizations and that have assisted their healthcare facility clients in improving their environmental performance. A rigorous submission and review process is required for consideration.

To gain recognition, G/BA documented its in-house sustainability efforts as well as its work helping clients create more resource-efficient healthcare facilities. The firm was among 17 recipients of the 2016 Champion for Change designation, only four of which were architecture or engineering firms. Four of G/BA's longtime clients (Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Adovcate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital, and NorthShore University HealthSystem Evanston Hospital) were among the Top 25 winners of the association's Environmental Excellence Award this year, selected from 500 hospital and health systems that submitted applications.

G/BA’s recent collaborations with Practice Greenhealth include multiple presentations on "Greening the OR" (with client York Chan of Advocate Health Care) and Greenhealth Academy webinars on Energy and Water Benchmarking for Hospitals and Energy Master Planning for Hospitals. G/BA Chairman Dan Doyle is currently working with staff from Practice Greenhealth, the Cleveland Clinic, and the College of American Pathologists to help develop a new program on "Greening the Laboratory" for PGH. Our annual Hospital Energy and Water Benchmarking Survey, an important free resource, is a primary aspect of the G/BA’s effort to promote resource-efficient hospitals; the firm is currently collecting data for the 2016 report (2015 data)

"We value our ongoing relationship with Practice Greenhealth as we work together toward more sustainable healthcare facilities," says Doyle. "We are honored to have received this award for four years in a row and appreciate the role the group's awards programs play in inspiring the entire healthcare community toward environmental excellence.”

The award was presented in Dallas on May 19 at the CleanMed Conference and Exhibition. For more information about the Champion for Change award, click here.
