New Advocate Illinois Masonic Facility Receives Honor

Awards

The Chicago Building Congress, a professional organization for those involved in creating the built environment, has presented a new GBA-designed facility at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with its 2022 Merit Award in the Healthcare category.

The Physical Therapy and Sports Health Center and Parking Garage (also known as the Sheffield project) includes clinic space on the ground floor, topped by about 400 parking spaces. The $22 million project replaces surface parking and includes about 205,000 gross square feet of facilities. The hospital’s physical therapy, occupational therapy, and sports medicine programs have been consolidated in the new building, which includes a large, open gym as well as 15 prefabricated exam room pods.

GBA provided mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design, with electrical engineering by frequent partner Dickerson Engineering Inc. Architectural design, civil/structural engineering, interiors, and landscape architecture were by SmithGroup. LEED Gold was achieved.

The Chicago Building Congress Merit Awards have celebrated the building industry since 1956, singling out outstanding projects in greater Chicagoland built during the past three years.

GBA congratulates its team, its collaborators, and Advocate Aurora Health for creating an effective and meaningful facility, which will improve health services in Chicago’s busy Lakeview neighborhood for years to come.
